We are deeply saddened to announce that Chuck Berry ”“ beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather ”“ passed away at his home today at the age of 90. Though his health had deteriorated recently, he spent his last days at home surrounded by the love of his family and friends. The Berry family asks that you respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Eh sì, uno fra i grandi pionieri, fondatori, mentori e stelle del rock’n’roll non è piùcon noi. Novantanni compiuti e suonati con una intensità che difficilemte potrà mai essere eguagliata. Un grande uomo di rock, un grande compositore ed intermprete di un momento splendendemte e unico della storia.
Chuck Berry è di certo una fra le stelle piùbillanti del firmamento del rock’n’roll, rappresentante di quella generazione di giovani ribelli che muoveva, nemmeno così timidamente, i primi passi affrancandosi dalla generazione che li aveva preceduti. Uno dei piùrisoluti rappresentanti di un cambiamento che fortunatamente ha influenzato con atteggiamento e attitudini il mondo che sarebbe arrivato fino a noi.
I suoi riffi di chitarra, da ricordare che Chuck Berry è uno dei primi rocker a cantare e suonare contemporaneamente, il suo duck walk, le sue smorfie ammiccanti, le sue camminate durante i suoi assolo sono stati inseriti nei libri di storia, di quella storia che si studia nella aule della unica scuola del rock’n’roll. Imitato, osannato, condannato, esiliato, adorato. Ecco il senso di questo grande uomo e padre di tutto ciò che noi amiamo. Se suoni la chitarra un riff alla Chuck Berry lo devi per forza affrontare, altrimenti non sarai un rocker all’altezza… un grande.
L’America degli anni cinquanta è prevalentemente fatta dai bianchi per i bianchi, le opportunità non sono uguali per tutti, i cappucci bianchi sono indossati capiarbamente negli stati del sud e approvati dai fatti senza essere utilizzati, la segregazione continua a violentare la società relegando agli ultimi posti una fetta di popolazione senza colpe. Chuck Berry, folle artista senza una tela ma con un mondo di note, si trova, forse involontariamente a distruggere i muri e le barriere alzati da pochi per difendere la diversità e la supremazia di un colore rispetto ad un altro (ma cavolo… è cambiato proprio poco da allora…). Durante i suoi concerti sono presenti tutti i colori del rock’n’roll a formarne uno solo, un insieme… un vento di rinnovamento nella società ricostitutita dalla voglia di abbondonare le storture delle seconda guerra mondial finita nonda molto tempo.
