Qualche settimana fa è uscito il primo album degli Infernal Death, band danese nata nei primi anni novanta e dopo averli contattati mi accingo a fare una chiacchierata con Sune Borring, il chitarrista solista del gruppo e membro fondatore del gruppo”…

Prima di tutto congratulazioni per l’album, credo che il vostro lavoro sia pieno di potenza ed energia. Davvero aggressivo. Sei d’accordo con me? Quali sono gli elementi principali di quest’album?
Sune Borring:
Yeah, hai ragione, riff veloci e heavy, non molto doom, ha ha.

Dimmi un po’. Tutti i brani sono stati composti durante questa ‘reunion’ or ci sono vecchie composizioni rivisitate in stile moderno?
Sune Borring:
5 brani sono vecchi in stile moderno e alcuni dei quali erano piùlunghi in origine. 2 sono brani nuovi, “Call to War” e “Ruin of Hell”, ma sono sempre in stile Infernal Death. Ma rappresentano anche i nuovi Infernal Death poichè creati con i due nuovi membri e l’album mi sembra essere veloce, aggressivo, thrash, death e un po’ doom

Com’è o com’è stato essere di nuovo insieme, in studio e dal vivo? Cosa provi a tal proposito e cosa significa per te essere di nuovo insieme?
Sune Borring:
Io e Lars Hald abbiamo suonato in altre band dopo lo scioglimento, ma credo non fosse la stessa cosa. Ho iniziato a suonare con una band chiamata Saturnus, ma ho mollato dopo qualche concerto perchè non mi trovavo con loro. Forse ho iniziato una nuova carriera troppo presto dopo li scioglimento degli Infernal Death.
Loro sono delle ottime persone e abbiamo suonato solo pochi concerti assieme.

Perdona la domanda. Ma perchè vi siete sciolti?
Sune Borring:
E’ una domanda naturale, hehe. Quando ci siamo fermati io ero già fuori dalla band. Lars aveva ottenuto un posto negli Illdisposed e al resto del gruppo si era unito Jon Larsen (attuale batterista dei Volbeat), ma non era adatto alla band e quindi decisero di sciogliersi.
Long Live Rock’n’Roll.it:
E perchè la scelta di ritornare insieme? Qualcosa lasciato incompiuto nel passato, una scelta di essere di nuovo insieme perchè siete amici?
Sune Borring:
Credo che tutti pensiamo sia divertente. Dopo l’arrivo di facebook abbiamo stretto amicizia, abbiamo ripreso a parlare un po’, Lars, Tom e il nuovo membro Allan hanno iniziato a suonare. Lars e io abbiamo cominciato a discuterne e mi sono trasferito ed è bello che io mi sia unito di nuovo alla band.

‘Call to War’, il titolo dell’album, un’orda di guerrieri morti con a capo la morte, è questa la copertina. Mi parli da dove nasce l’idea del titolo e della copertina?
Sune Borring:
Riguarda il nostro primo demo “demo #1” in cui attingiamo sempre. E poi il titolo è venuto fuori dal brano “Call to War”.

Uno dei brani che ho apprezzato molto (e che sto proprio ascoltando ora che ti scrivo) è ‘Immortal Race & Psychotic Thoughts’”… mi sembra che potrebbe riassumere in pieno l’idea principale dell’album e della vostra lunga carriera?
Sune Borring:
Sì, hai ragione. I due brani sono vecchi e abbiamo pensato che sarebbero stati perfetti fusi insieme. Magari qualcuno vorrebbe che suonassimo ‘Immortal Race’ da solo, ma non credo che questo accadrà . Credo che ‘Psychotic Thoughts’ sia il brano piùduro composto nel nostro primo periodo. Il brano è stato inserito in un cd chiamato ‘fuck you, we’re from Denmark’, negli anni 90 ed è piaciuto a molti e in molti ce lo chiedono ancora.

Quale brano potrebbe essere considerato il piùimportante dell’album?
Sune Borring:
Ah, difficile, ‘Ruin of Hate’ è bello perchè ti fa sentire l’energia che c’è nel gruppo e perchè è un brano nuovo. Ma io credo che ‘Psychotic Thoughts’ è un brano molto potente e bello da suonare dal vivo.

Secondo me, una parola chiave per questo album è: esperienza, ma anche maturità come musicisti, professionisti e uomini potrebbe essere l’altra. che ne pensi?
Sune Borring:
Hai ragione ancora e anche 3/4 di old school death mteal.

Di nuovo, mi scuso per la domanda, ma secondo te cosa può dare il death metal (suonate death metal non è vero?) a questi tempi?
Sune Borring:
Non credo che possa dare ancora qualcosa di nuovo, molti giovani chiedono musica din old style, così come il nostro giovane bassista quando nel gruppo parliamo delle vecchie band e dei concerti lui sempre ripete ‘cavolo, sono nato troppo tardi’. Credo che tutto ciò darà vita a heavy riff e una buona energia.

Sai niente delle prime reazioni dopo l’uscita dell’album?
Sune Borring:
E’ ancora abbastanza nuovo ma fin’ora le prime reazioni sono buone.
Long Live Rock’n’Roll.it:
State promuovendo l’album o lo promuoverete? Magari anche in Italia con qualche concerto?
Sune Borring:
Sì, abbiamo messo molti post in rete e stiamo fissando una serie di concerti, inizialmente in Danimarca. Abbiamo bisogno di promoter per i concerti, quindi se ne conosci qualcuno faccelo sapere. Suoneremo in molti festival e spero che altri ne arriveranno col nuovo album.

First of all congratulations for the album, I think your work is full of power and energy. Really aggressive. Do you agree with me? And what are the main elements of this album?

Year, u right, fast and heavy riff, not so much doom, ha ha

Tell me, please. All the songs were composed during this ‘reunion’ or there are old songs revisited in modern style?
Sune Borring:
5 of the numbers are old in modern style, some of them was much longer in old days. 2 of the songs are brand new, “Call to War” and “Ruin of Hell”, but they are still in Infernal Death´s style. But they also represent the new of Infernal Death as our new numbers we have made, after record this album is fast, aggressive, thrash, death and a little doom.

How is or was to be together again, in studio and live? What are your feelings about it and what do you mean for you to be together?
Sune Borring:
Lars Hald and my self have play with other bands after we split up, but we don’t think is was the same.
I started playing whit the band call Saturnus after, but I split with them after some concerts, bcoz I did not feel ok with it. Maybe it was too fast after the split whit ID. They are some great guys, we have just play a small concert whit them.

Sorry for this question”… but why did you split up in the 90s?
Sune Borring:
It’s a natural questions, he he. I was already out of the band when it stop. But Lars got a job at Illdisposed and then the rest of the band got Jon Larsen (now drummer at Volbeat) in, but he did not fit in the band and then they decided to stop.

And why did you chose to be back again? Something not completed in the past, a choice to be together because friends”…
Sune Borring:
I think we all think it could be funny. But after facebook came and we became friends there, start to chat a little, Lars, Tom and the new guy Allan started to play. Lars and me start to chat about it, I have to move a little far away from where they live, but I think it could be fun and then I also join the band.

‘Call to War’, the title, and a horde of dead warriors led by death, the artwork”… what about the idea of the cover and the title?
Sune Borring:
It’s a little about our first demo “demo #1” where we also have a house on. And then the title name “Call to War”.

One of the songs I have appreciated a lot (and I’m still appreciating because I’m listening while I’m writing these questions) is ‘Immortal Race & Psychotic Thoughts’”… maybe could it summarize the main idea of the album and your long career, too?
Sune Borring:
he he, yes u right. The 2 songs are some of the old and we thought it would be perfect to but them together. Some would like us to play “Immortal Race” alone, but I don’t think it will happen. ” Psychotic Thoughts” is, in my mind, our strongest song from old days. We also have that on a cd call “fuck you, we’re from Denmark” in the ´90 and many people like the song then, and still ask about it now.

Which song could be considered the most important of the album?
Sune Borring:
Ah, it’s hard, “Ruin of Hate” is good, bcoz it let u feel the energy there is in the band now, coz it is a new number. But I still think “Psychotic Thoughts” is a very strong number, and great to play live.

In my opinion, one keyword for this album is experience, but also maturity as musician, professional and men could be the another one”… what do you think about it?
Sune Borring:
U right, again, just 3/4 old school death metal.

Sorry for my question”… but in your opinion what could death metal (you play death metal isn’t it?) give to this modern age?
Sune Borring:
I don’t think it could give so much new, many young people ask for old style music, like our young bass player, when we in the band talk about old bands and concert we were in old days, he always said “damm, I´m born too late”. I think there shall be some nice heavy riff and a good energy in it.

Do you know anything about the first reactions about the album from press, audience, fans”…
Sune Borring:
It still new, but all the reactions until now are great.

Are you promoting this album or are you going to do it? And maybe in Italy, too, with some shows?
Sune Borring:
Yes we make a lot of posting at the net and we try to get some gigs, first here in Denmark. We need promoter for concerts, so if u know somebody just let them get in tots whit us. We will very much play a lots concerts and festivals and hope they will come with the new album.
