Ragazzi spagnoli che hanno viaggiato per il mondo con un unico obiettivo : suonare il rock (quello vero).
Abbiamo intervistato il loro leader Jacob MoFo bassista e cantante della band per farci raccontare la sua incredibile avventura e quando avremo l’opportunità di vederli dal vivo in Italia

Ciao Jacob, e benvenuto su longliverocknroll.it Per me è un grande piacere e onore avere l’opportunità di intervistare un frontman vero e genuino della scena Rock. Dico questo perché in ogni occasione (Youtube,post su facebook, concerto, dopo concerto) riusciamo a sentire che hai lavorato sodo per fare quello che stai facendo”…e che hai un solo scopo: garantire uno show nel vero senso della parola e pieno di energia ogni notte.

Ti ringrazio, è un piacere e sono lusingato che apprezzi in questo modo quello che facciamo!
Vorrei partire questa intervista dai tuoi inizi.
Quando hai incominciato a sentire il “fuoco” del rock’n’roll dentro di te?
Da bambino a scuola ogni giorno ero continuamente vittima di bullismo, sia da parte di bambini o insegnanti, solo perché non ero simpatico, elegante e “ben educato” come gli altri.
Quei bastardi mi hanno fatto sentire una merda per tutto quel periodo ridendo di me e picchiandomi … la mia famiglia era molto umile e non poteva permettersi di comprare molte cose, ma mi piaceva, mi sentivo davvero orgoglioso di non sembrare gli altri e di non omologarmi alla massa Mi piaceva essere lo strambo, ahah … mio padre era un musicista e ogni tanto si chiudeva in una stanza per suonare la chitarra o solo per ascoltare dei vinili della sua vecchia collezione. Mi è sempre stato detto di non entrare in quella stanza, ma mi sono sempre sentito così attratto da quello che poteva accadere lì che un giorno non sono piùriuscito a resistere alla tentazione e sono riuscito a intrufolarmi.
Una volta dentro sapevo che non potevo restare a lungo e che se papà mi avesse beccato lì sarei stato fottuto, così, ho preso uno dei nastri sopra un tavolo e l’ho suonato su un vecchio stereo nella mia stanza, amico, la prima canzone di quel nastro era “Highway Star” dei “Deep Purple”
Credimi, quella era magia, quella musica mi ha davvero sconvolto la mente, era giusto la forza di cui avevo bisogno per passare i miei giorni a scuola e che sicuramente ha acceso un fuoco dentro di me, che ha davvero cambiato la mia vita …
Un giorno mio papà mi sorprese mentre stavo armeggiando con tutte le sue cose e pensai che mi avrebbe ucciso ma invece si limitò a sedersi con me e mi introdusse alla musica in modo appropriato, suonando e cantando alcuni accordi sulla sua chitarra e io lo seguivo con il basso, ricordo di aver suonato alcuni brani dei Beatles, dei Credence o dei Rolling Stones…
Mi sentivo davvero soddisfatto e mi ha reso felice. Sapevo che quella sarebbe stata la mia vita per sempre, in realtà ho reso orgoglioso anche mio padre almeno sarei stato in grado di suonare dimostrando di essere almeno bravo in qualcosa in modo da non deluderlo, dopo essere stato un completo fallimento come ragazzino, un buon compromesso per me haha!
E quel giorno hai deciso che il modo migliore per esprimere quello che sentivi era quello di suonare la tua musica in giro per il mondo?
Sì, ho continuato ad andare in quella stanza quasi tutti i giorni solo per suonare altri nastri / vinili o solo per prendere il basso e imparare alcune di quelle canzoni, allora era quella tutta la mia vita, non avevo nient’altro e questo significava tutto per me, ho scoperto che quando suonavo potevo dimenticare tutta la merda che mi accadeva all’epoca ed era l’unica cosa che mi sembrava davvero giusta …
Alcuni anni dopo che mi sono unito a delle band locali e ho iniziato a suonare i miei primi concerti, ho scoperto un mondo completamente nuovo che mi ha reso intensamente dipendente, la performance dal vivo e l’adrenalina che provavi sul palco di fronte a un pubblico era la miglior droga per me, in realtà è diventata la mia ossessione fino ad oggi. In quei giorni avrei fatto qualsiasi cosa per uscire e suonare, era tutto quello che volevo e lo faccio ancora, ho sempre lasciato tutto solo per continuare a suonare la mia musica e questa è l’unica cosa che abbia mai avuto.
Ho presto scoperto che suonando potevo esprimermi attraverso la musica e mi sentivo benissimo, vedevo le persone che ballavano e cantavano, le stesse che mi hanno fatto diventare un personaggio, e che di conseguenza attiravo anche le ragazze , quindi c’era qualcosa di veramente potente in questo haha! Era un esperienza troppo giusta da ripetere piùe piùvolte .

Potresti dirci qualcosa di piùsull’inizio della tua avventura?
Tornando indietro ai miei primi periodi ero così ansiosi di formare la band che ho sempre sognato che avrei potuto fare qualsiasi cosa o andare da nessuna parte… quindi senza pensarci due volte, ho iniziato a viaggiare per il mondo,e ho incontrato musicisti ovunque e ho provato tutto pur di avere la mia band ma non è stato così facile … mi sono ritrovato in posti diversi, circondato dalle persone sbagliate e sono finito senza un tetto suonando per le strade molte volte in giro per il mondo, ma non ho mai smesso di crederci ed è stato quello in qualche modo l’inizio della mia band, infatti il nome della band è venuto fuori da quei giorni da musicisti di strada nei quali la polizia ha cercato di impedirmi di suonare intimandomi: “-si! Tu!! Stop … Stop! “… ahahah!
L.A. è stato il mio punto di rottura in effetti; Ho pensato che fosse la mia ultima possibilità di trovare le persone giuste per la mia band. Le numerose band che ho seguito si sono formati lì, quindi ho pensato che sarebbe stato il posto giusto dove spostarmi e iniziare a cercare. Quando sono arrivato lì ho trovato tutto tranne il rock and roll per essere onesti.
L.A. era un posto fantastico negli anni ’80 ma non nel 2006, quella grande scena rock nel suo stato puro era finita”… e ancora una volta mi sono ritrovato senza casa e a suonare per le strade … non molto tempo dopo sono riuscito a tornare indietro a Barcellona e fu lì che incontrai Vega e Danny, proprio nella mia città natale, tutti i viaggi che feci solo per trovare i ragazzi giusti proprio lì, proprio in fondo alla strada, ahahah!
Ma sì, tutti i viaggi e le avventure sono stati fantastici, ho incontrato Lemmy (Motörhead) e partecipato ad alcuni delle feste di Hollywood con ex attori e vecchie rockstar come alcuni ragazzi di Kingdome Come, Pretty Boy Floyd e ho incontrato alcune icone come Bobbie Brown (Cherry Pie girl) solo per citarne alcuni …
E finalmente trovi altri artisti incredibili come Vega alla chitarra e Danny alla batteria …
In realtà ci sono state diverse line up da quando ho iniziato questo progetto nel 2007, un sacco di gente è entrata e uscita dalla band fino a quando Vega si è unito e finalmente Danny poco dopo. Sono davvero grandi interpreti, musicisti fantastici e piùche amici per me, sono proprio come fratelli, mi sento fortunato anche se mi ci è voluto molto per trovarli lol, ora dopo 7 anni, 24 ore e 365 giorni all’anno passati insieme, io posso dirti che siamo piùuniti e piùeccitati che mai di affrontare questo folle viaggio.
A partire dal 2007, come Stop Stop, avete suonato per una media di piùdi 60 concerti live all’anno.
C’è un’enorme lavoro dietro!
Hai una squadra che aiuta la band a organizzare concerti, logistica, merchandise o everithing è “fatto in casa”?
In realtà piùdi 60 concerti all’anno, per farti un esempio, solo nel 2015 abbiamo suonato piùdi 200 concerti. È molto considerando che siamo una band indipendente…
Anche se ci sono state alcune persone che ci hanno aiutano, per lo piùfacciamo tutto da soli, quindi sì è tutto “fatto in casa” haha, e credimi quando ti dico che è l’unico modo in cui siamo riusciti a passare da vivere in un furgone totalmente senzatetto quando ci siamo trasferiti nel Regno Unito per poi diventare professionisti nel settore musicale …
Non conosco le altre band, ma siamo noi siamo venuti direttamente dalle strade senza un soldo e dopo anni di lavoro non stop, siamo stati in grado di guadagnarci da vivere con la nostra musica. Abbiamo fatto l’impossibile contro tutte le probabilità e il segreto è semplice, prendi il controllo di tutto, fallo tu stesso non aspettare la grande occasione, mettici tutto il cuore e continua a farlo perché quando fai ciò che ami e Ami ciò che fai, circondato dalle persone giuste, sarà difficile che qualcosa possa andare storto.
Nessun manager, nessuna grande occasione, nessun budget e nessun papà ricco … solo tre “amigos” con un po ‘di coraggio nel suonare rock and roll, questo è tutto, questo è StOp,sToP.
Quindi la motivazione, la perseveranza e il duro lavoro sono l’unico modo per “vivere il sogno” … hai qualche suggerimento per la futura generazione del rock’n’roll?
Hey!? NOI siamo la futura generazione del rock and roll, haha! L’unico suggerimento che vorrei dire alle nuove band è: resta fedele a ciò in cui credi, fallo solo perché lo ami e attieniti a ciò che sei perché è l’unico modo per ottenere dei risultati

Hai mai pensato di raccontare tutto in un libro? Dovresti …
Haha grazie! Ma onestamente penso di essere appena all’inizio … se riuscirò mai a raggiungere tutto ciò che voglio raggiungere, allora forse sarà il momento di scrivere un libro, non ora. Diverse persone mi hanno detto di farlo, ma di nuovo, mi sento proprio nel mezzo dell’avventura, abbiamo ancora una lunga strada da percorrere per arrivare dove vogliamo arrivare e c’è ancora tanto lavoro da fare … forse un giorno .. .
Hai qualche sorpresa per noi durante il 2018? Un’altro album forse?
Stiamo lavorando a un nuovo album ma non so se avremo abbastanza tempo per arrivare a pubblicarlo nel 2018, siamo nel processo iniziale di scrittura ora, quindi dobbiamo ancora fare un sacco di lavoro, siamo sempre in tour e combinare entrambe le cose, la scrittura di canzoni e i tour, ci rende le cose piùlunghe.
Saremo in tournée con il nostro “Sweaty, Noisy & In Your Face Tour 2018” nel Regno Unito e in Europa.
Il prossimo aprile,suoneremo in Italia, ne restano ancora alcuni da confermare, questo è quello che è confermato:

I would like to start this interview from your beginning.
When you started to feel the “fire” of rock’n’roll insiede you?
As a kid I was fucking bullied at school every day whether by kids or teachers just because I wasn’t cool, posh and “well” behaved like the others.
Those bastards made me feel like shit all the time laughing at me and beating me up… my family was very humble and couldn’t afford to buy much stuff but I liked that, I felt really proud of not looking like the others and never fitting in, I liked to be the weirdo, haha…my dad was a musician and every now and then locked himself in a room to play some guitar or just to play some vinyls of his old collection.
I was told not to mess around in that room but I always felt so attracted to what was happening in there that one day I couldn’t resist temptation anymore and managed to sneak in.
Once in I knew I couldn’t stay long so if dad caught me there I was fucked, so, quick I took one of the tapes over a table and I played it on the old stereo in my room, dude, the first song of that tape was “Highway Star” from “Deep Purple”,
Oh man, that was magic, that shit really blew my mind away, it was right the strength I needed to go through my school days and that surely started a fire inside me, that really changed my life…
One day dad caught me there messing with all his stuff and I thought he would kill me but instead of that he just sat down with me and introduced me to music properly, he would play some cords on his guitar along some singing and I would follow him on bass, I remember playing some The Beatles, Credence or some Rolling Stones songs…that really fulfilled me, that made me happy and I knew that was going to be my life forever.
I actually made my dad proud I was gonna be able to play music and I didn’t suck at it so maybe one day I could get to be good at least at something after being a complete failed kid, fair enough to me haha!
And that day you decided as well that the better way to express your self must be playing your own music all around the world?
Yeah, I kept going to that room almost every day just to play some more tapes/vinyls or just to pick up the bass guitar and learn some of those songs, that was all my life back then, I didn’t have anything else and that meant everything to me, I found out that when I played music I could forget about all the shit that happened back then and the only thing that felt really good to me…
Some years after I joined some local bands and started playing my first gigs, I discovered a whole new world that got me intensively addicted, the live performance and the adrenaline you feel on stage in front of an audience was just like the best of drugs to me as a teenager, actually that became my obsession till today.
Those days I would do anything to go out and play, that was all I wanted and I still do, always left everything behind just to keep playing my music and that’s the only thing I ever got.
I soon found out that by playing gigs I could express myself through music and it felt great, I got people dancing and singing along, that made me fly dude, and also girls came easy so there was something really powerful about that haha! It was too sweet not have a proper taste and soon be back for more….

Could you tell us something more about the begining of your adventure?
Back in my early days I could have done anything or have gone anywhere, I was so desperate to start the band I always dreamt of…so I went mad, travelling the world, meeting musicians everywhere and trying everything to get my own band together but it wasn’t that easy…
I found myself in different places surrounded by the wrong people and let down all over again, I ended up homeless and busking in the streets many times around the world but believe it or not that was somehow the start of my band, and actually the band’s name came out of those “street musician” days when police tried to stop me from playing like: “-hey! You!! Stop…you stop stop!”…hahaha!
L.A. was my breaking point indeed; I thought it was my last chance to find the right people for my band. Loads of bands that I followed were formed there so I thought that would be the right place to move to and start searching. When I got there I found everything but rock and roll to be honest.
L.A. used to be an awesome place back in the 80’s but not in 2006, that great rock scene in it’s pure state was over and once again ended up homeless and busking in the streets… not long after that I managed to make it back to Barcelona and that was where I met Vega and Danny, right in my home town, all the travelling I did just to find the right guys right there, just down the road, hahaha!
But yeah all the trips and adventures were great though, I got to meet Lemmy (Motörhead) and partied at some of the fucked up apartments in Hollywood with ex actors and old rockstars like some guys from Kingdome Come, Pretty Boy Floyd and met some icons like Bobbie Brown (Cherry Pie girl) just to name a few…
And finally you find others incredible performers like Vega on guitar and Danny on drums…
Actually there have been different line ups since I started this project in 2007, loads of people got in and out this band until Vega joined and finally Danny some while after too. They are indeed great performers, awesome musicians and more than friends to me, just like brothers so I’m lucky even if it took me long to find them lol, now over after 7 years, 24 hours and 365 days per year together, I can tell you we’re more united and more excited than ever to still going in this crazy trip.
Starting for 2007 as Stop Stop you guys performed an averege of more than 60 live gigs per year.
There is a hell of a work behind!
Do you have a team that help the band to organize concert, logistic, merchandise or everithing is “home made”?
Actually more than 60 gigs per year, to give you an example, only in 2015 we played over 200 gigs. It is a lot considering we’re an independent band…
Even if there have been some people helping, we mostly do it all ourselves, so yes it’s all “home made” haha, and believe me when I tell you it’s the only way we have made it from living in a van being totally homeless when we first moved to the U.K. to become fully professionals in the music business…
I don’t know about the other bands but we have come right from the streets without a penny and after years of nonstop working like crazy, we’ve been able to make a living out of our own music. We’ve done the impossible against all odds and the secret is simple, take control of everything, do it yourself don’t wait for the big chance, put all your heart on it and keep doing it because when you do what you love and you love what you do, surrounded by the right people it’ll be difficult that something can go wrong.
No managers, no big chances, no budget and no rich daddy…just three “amigos” with some guts playing rock and roll, that’s all, that’s StOp,sToP!
So motivation, perseverance and hardwork are the only way to “live the dream”…do you have any suggestion for the future generation of rock’n’roll?
Hey!? WE are the future generation of rock and roll, haha! The only suggestion I would say to new bands is: stay true to what you believe, do it only because you love it and stick to it ‘cause it’s the only way you’ll get your pay off.

Have you ever think to write down everything in a book? You should…
Haha, thanks! But I honestly think I just have began on it…if I ever get to achieve all I want to achieve then maybe it’ll be the moment to write a book, not now. Several people have told me to do it but again, I feel just in the middle of the adventure, we still have a long road ahead to get where we wanna get and there’s still so much work to do… maybe one day…
Do you have any surprise for us during 2018?Another album release maybe?
We’re working on a new album but I don’t know if we will have enough time to get to release it in 2018, we’re in the early process of writing songs now so we still need to get loads of work done, but the fact that we have to keep touring and combine both things, song writing and touring, make things take longer.
In the other hand we will be on tour over U.K. and Europe next April “Sweaty, Noisy & In Your Face Tour 2018”, and we’ve got some gigs in Italy but still a few more to be confirmed, that’s what we got so far:
