I Depeche Mode avevano annunciato tramite un comunicato ufficiale della morte avvenuta il 26 maggio 2022 del membro fondatore Andy Fletcher
La band aveva condiviso il primo messaggio ufficiale dopo la tragica scomparsa del musicista, pubblicando una richiesta di donazione al Teenage Cancer Trust auspicata dalla famiglia di Andy.
Oggi 27 giugno, a distanza di un mese dalla tragica scomparsa, la band stessa rivela le cause del decesso del loro ex tastierista in una nota ufficiale. Martin Gore e Dave Gahan scrivono che il compagno di band è morto per dissezione aortica, spazzando via ogni diceria e commento insensato.
Volevamo prenderci un momento e riconoscere il vostro amore per Andy che abbiamo visto ricevere nelle ultime settimane. È incredibile vedere tutte le foto, leggere le vostre parole e vedere quanto Andy ha significato per tutti voi. Come potete immaginare, sono state settimane strane, tristi e disorientanti per noi qui, per non dire altro. Ma abbiamo visto e sentito tutto il vostro amore e supporto, e sappiamo che lo ha fatto anche la famiglia di Andy.
Un paio di settimane fa abbiamo ricevuto il risultato dai medici legali, che la famiglia di Andy ci ha chiesto di condividere con voi ora. Andy ha subito una dissezione aortica mentre era a casa il 26 maggio. Quindi, anche se era troppo, troppo presto, è morto naturalmente e senza sofferenze prolungate.
Abbiamo celebrato la vita di Andy a Londra la scorsa settimana, che è stata una bellissima cerimonia e un incontro con qualche lacrima, ma piena di grandi ricordi di chi fosse Andy, storie di tutti i nostri tempi insieme e alcune belle risate. Andy è stato festeggiato in una stanza piena di molti dei suoi amici e della sua famiglia, della nostra famiglia DM e di tante persone che hanno toccato la vita di Andy e delle nostre vite nel corso degli anni. Stare tutti insieme è stato un modo molto speciale per ricordare Andy e salutarlo.
Quindi grazie per tutto l’amore che avete mostrato ad Andy, alla sua famiglia e ai suoi amici nelle ultime settimane. Significa onestamente tantissimo per tutti noi. Andy, ci mancherai, ma di certo non ti dimenticheremo.

Una persona vicina alla band aveva detto che Fletcher è morto giovedì per cause naturali nella sua casa nel Regno Unito. La persona ha parlato in condizione di anonimato perché non era autorizzata a parlare pubblicamente. Anche Rolling Stone ha confermato che le cause sarebbero naturali.
Andrew John Fletcher era nato a Nottingham l’8 luglio 1961. Alla fine degli anni ’70, Fletcher e il compagno di scuola Vince Clarke formarono la band No Romance in China, in cui Fletcher suonava il basso. Nel 1980, Fletcher incontrò Martin Gore formando con Clarke, il trio Composition of Sound, con Clarke anche cantante finché Dave Gahan non è stato reclutato nella band nello stesso anno, adottando il nome Depeche Mode su suggerimento di Gahan.
Fletcher lascia la moglie Gráinne Mullan, sposata il 16 gennaio 1991, e i due figli, Meghan e Joe.

We wanted to take a moment and acknowledge the outpouring of love for Andy that we’ve seen from all of you over the last few weeks. It’s incredible to see all of your photos, to read your words, and to see how much Andy meant to all of you. As you can imagine, it’s been a strange, sad, disorienting few weeks for us here, to say the least. But we’ve seen and felt all of your love and support, and we know that Andy’s family has too.
A couple weeks ago we received the result from the medical examiners, which Andy’s family asked us to share with you now. Andy suffered an aortic dissection while at home on May 26. So, even though it was far, far too soon, he passed naturally and without prolonged suffering.
We had a celebration of Andy’s life in London last week, which was a beautiful ceremony and gathering with a few tears, but filled with the great memories of who Andy was, stories of all of our times together, and some good laughs. Andy was celebrated in a room full of many of his friends and family, our immediate DM family, and so many people who have touched Andy’s and our lives throughout the years. All being together was a very special way to remember Andy and see him off.
So thank you for all of the love you’ve shown Andy and his family and friends over the last few weeks. It honestly means the world to all of us. Andy, you’ll be missed, but certainly not forgotten.
