A settembre 2025 è stato pubblicato l’EP UNSTOPPABLE del quartetto femminile di Lubiana: HELLCATS. A gennaio 2025 le quattro terribili ragazze slovene sono approdate in Italia al Mylady Festival a Mantova, all’ARCI Tom, e ci siamo finalmente incontrati e divertiti a chiacchierare con qualche immancabile foto di rito. A distanza di un anno ho ricontattato SASHA e SONJA ZAGORC, le sorelle motore della band, e abbiamo tirato le somme di un anno passato e chiacchierato di ciò che capiterà nel futuro…

Innanzitutto, buon anno, felice 2026. Come state? Che novità ci sono in Slovenia?
Dopo alcuni anni, finalmente ho l’occasione di chiacchierare di nuovo con voi. L’ultima volta che ho chiacchierato con voi due è stato circa quattro anni fa e mi dicevate che c’erano delle nuove cose che bollivano in pentola. E in effetti ci sono stati nuovi sviluppi, e anche molto positivi.
Una nuova formazione, concerti in Europa, alcuni video e un EP… fantastico. Inoltre, ho avuto l’occasione e il piacere di incontrarti a Mantova durante il Milady Fest 2025, abbiamo scattato alcune foto divertenti insieme… che serata fantastica… Cosa ricordate di quella serata, del festival in Italia?
Buon anno anche a te… Stiamo benissimo, grazie: siamo motivati, impegnati e pieni di idee.
Stiamo stringendo sempre più contatti con band e promotori internazionali, il che è davvero incoraggiante.
È difficile credere che siano passati circa quattro anni dall’ultima volta che abbiamo parlato: il tempo vola davvero. Hai ragione, da allora sono successe molte cose. Una nuova formazione porta sempre nuova energia, e suonare in concerti in tutta Europa è stato incredibilmente importante per noi, sia dal punto di vista musicale che personale. Pubblicare nuovi video e l’EP ci è sembrato il passo giusto al momento giusto, una sorta di nuovo capitolo per la band.
Il Milady Fest 2025 a Mantova è qualcosa che ricordiamo con molto affetto. L’atmosfera era incredibile: potente, solidale e piena di energia. È sempre speciale suonare a un festival che celebra davvero le donne nel metal, senza etichette o limiti. Il pubblico è stato fantastico, l’organizzazione è stata ottima e sì, i momenti nel backstage, le chiacchierate e le foto hanno reso la serata ancora più memorabile.
Amiamo l’Italia! Ci riserva sempre un’accoglienza molto calorosa e quella sera non ha fatto eccezione. È uno di quei concerti che ti rimangono dentro e ti ricordano perché fai questo lavoro.
Tornerete nel nostro Paese?
Dopo l’ottima risposta che abbiamo ricevuto, tornare è sicuramente nella nostra lista dei desideri. Non ci piace mai promettere date con troppo anticipo, ma sì, speriamo davvero di rivedervi molto presto.
Sono felice di aver avuto la possibilità di vedervi suonare dal vivo. Ho potuto percepire tutta la vostra energia, classe e potenza. Ho notato che vi siete divertiti molto e avete intrattenuto perfettamente il pubblico. È una grande qualità che ha impressionato tutti noi. L’energia è una delle parole chiave che caratterizzano le HELLCATS?
Assolutamente sì, l’energia è uno dei nostri elementi fondamentali. Per noi, un concerto dal vivo non significa solo suonare correttamente le canzoni, ma anche condividere qualcosa di reale con il pubblico. Ci piace davvero stare sul palco, e quel divertimento, quella passione e quella connessione si trasformano naturalmente in energia. Se il pubblico lo percepisce e lo ricambia, si crea un circolo perfetto.
Quella sera avete eseguito una serie di vostri brani e poi una serie di cover. Come scegliete la scaletta pensando anche che avete dei brani dal nuovo nuovo EP UNSTOPPABLE? Come scegli i brani da cantare, considerando anche la voce di SARA (SARA SIMEUNOVIC, NDR) , che è diversa da quella delle cantanti precedenti?
Le nostre canzoni vengono sempre prima di tutto, specialmente il nuovo materiale di UNSTOPPABLE Le cover vengono scelte con molta attenzione: devono adattarsi all’identità delle HELLCATS e mettere in risalto le doti vocali di SARA. SARA ha una voce meravigliosa, che abbiamo cercato a lungo. Non cerchiamo di copiare il passato, ma adattiamo, riarrangiamo e costruiamo le canzoni attorno alla formazione attuale, in modo che tutto risulti naturale e potente.
Sono rimasto molto colpito dal modo potente di suonare la chitarra di MIA. Il suo tocco è ricco e delicato allo stesso tempo. È sempre molto concentrata e seria, anche nei video.
MIA è una chitarrista incredibile: molto concentrata, molto precisa e profondamente musicale. Il suo tocco è davvero potente e sensibile allo stesso tempo. Sul palco e nei video è molto concentrata, ma quell’intensità fa parte della sua personalità e della sua forza.
E poi le due formidabili e terribili sorelle, SASHA e SONJA, che credono in questo fantastico progetto e mettono il cuore e l’anima nel rendere questa avventura un grande successo.
…(ridono)… Grazie, lo prendiamo come un complimento (e lo è davvero, ndr). HELLCATS non è solo un progetto per noi. Abbiamo creduto in esso fin dall’inizio, attraverso tutti i cambiamenti, le sfide e gli ostacoli. Abbiamo messo il cuore e l’anima in questa band perché è più che musica: è uno stile di vita per noi.
Finalmente siete tornate con una nuova uscita, un EP intitolato UNSTOPPABLE. Il titolo del vostro lavoro è piuttosto chiaro. D’ora in poi sarà impossibile fermarti… giusto?
Questo è esattamente lo spirito giusto. Il titolo riflette il nostro stato d’animo dopo tutto quello che abbiamo passato. Siamo ancora qui, più forti, più concentrate e più unite che mai. Finché avremo la passione, la volontà e il sostegno di persone come te, sì, ci sentiamo UNSTOPPABLE.
Ho notato un ottimo feeling tra voi. Ora siete una band affermata e ben strutturata sotto ogni aspetto. Ma siete in quattro… giovani e con una forte personalità. Come vivete i momenti di collaborazione, di scrittura e di convivenza anche durante i tour?
Siamo quattro personalità forti, è vero, ma ci rispettiamo e ci vogliamo bene. Siamo diventate amiche per davvero. Parliamo molto, ci ascoltiamo a vicenda e sappiamo tutte che stiamo lavorando per raggiungere lo stesso obiettivo. Adoriamo stare insieme e ci divertiamo un mondo durante il tour.
A proposito, come sono andati i tuoi concerti all’estero? Ci sono stati momenti divertenti durante i vostri spettacoli che vorreste condividere con noi?
I concerti all’estero sono andati molto bene: il feedback è stato fantastico e molto motivante. Per quanto riguarda i momenti divertenti… ce ne sono molti! Dai problemi dell’ultimo minuto con l’attrezzatura alle incomprensioni linguistiche e alle risate spontanee nel backstage. Questi momenti ci avvicinano e diventano ricordi indimenticabili.
Una volta, quando eravamo in Inghilterra (a Manchester), siamo andate a fare colazione in un hotel e c’era una donna che lavorava lì e ci ha chiesto che tipo di colazione volevamo. Aveva un accento davvero strano e ha dovuto ripetere la sua domanda circa 5 volte, prima che capissimo di cosa stesse parlando. È stato un momento davvero divertente e abbiamo riso molto. Siamo sempre di buon umore quando siamo in tour.
Come vi siete sentite dopo tutto questo tempo, creando un prodotto fisico che segna il tuo ritorno alla registrazione? Dalla composizione dei brani alla registrazione, fino al momento in cui hai tenuto il tuo EP tra le mani e fino a quando avete autografato i CD?
È stata un’esperienza emozionante. Dalla composizione dei brani alla registrazione, fino al momento in cui abbiamo finalmente tenuto l’EP tra le mani: in quel momento tutto è diventato reale. Firmare i CD e vedere le reazioni delle persone ci ha ricordato perché le pubblicazioni fisiche sono ancora importanti. È stato come un vero e proprio ritorno.
Il vostro nuovo EP, pubblicato lo scorso settembre 2025, contiene tre nuovi brani: Unstoppable, I Am, Spiderweb e il primo singolo pubblicato due anni fa intitolato “Black Thunder”. Poi ci sono altri due brani, ?rna Burja, ovvero Black Thunder cantato in sloveno, e Naprej, un altro brano cantato in sloveno e scritto circa nove anni fa. Congratulazioni per le vostre scelte, tutte molto interessanti e potenti nel vero stile degli HELLCATS. Potete parlarmi delle scelte fatte? Parlando dei due brani in sloveno e… beh, un po’ di tutto…
Volevamo che UNSTOPPABLE rappresentasse chi siamo: il nostro passato, il nostro presente e il nostro futuro. Includere canzoni in sloveno è molto importante per noi, perché è la nostra lingua, le nostre radici.?rna Burja eNaprej hanno un peso emotivo speciale e collegano il nostro sound internazionale alla nostra identità. L’EP è un quadro completo delle HELLCATS. Noi due, SONJA e SASHA, abbiamo scritto tutte le canzoni e la collaborazione con il meraviglioso produttore Sergej Pobegajlo è stata semplicemente fantastica.
Nel corso della vostra carriera, ho visto che avete realizzato molti video molto interessanti in cui cercate di esprimere tutta la vostra energia e la vostra forza. Che rapporto avete con i video e quanto sono importanti nel vostro percorso artistico?
I video sono una parte molto importante della nostra espressione artistica. Ci permettono di tradurre visivamente l’energia, l’atteggiamento e il messaggio della nostra musica. Li consideriamo un altro strumento creativo, non solo un mezzo promozionale. Ogni video è un pezzo della nostra storia e il nostro regista Perica Rai sa sempre cosa vogliamo.
Avete qualche nuovo progetto per il prossimo futuro? Nuove date, nuovi concerti, nuove avventure di cui volete parlarci?
Sì, ci saranno nuovi concerti, nuove date e nuove avventure. Stiamo già pensando al futuro in modo creativo. Ci piace andare avanti ed esplorare nuove possibilità. A maggio andremo in Germania e più avanti in Belgio, Paesi Bassi e Croazia. Ma il 7 marzo incontreremo altre due band femminili nella nostra città natale, Lubiana, dove dal 2015 organizziamo l’evento dedicato alle band femminili ‘Dan rock žena‘ (Il giorno delle donne nel rock).
È sempre bello poter parlare e dialogare con musicisti di talento, artisti meravigliosi e persone che dedicano parte della loro vita alla musica. Pensate che ora che la musica sta cambiando, anche il mercato musicale stia cambiando in parte a causa dell’intelligenza artificiale, e che una band come la vostra potrebbe trovarsi ad affrontare maggiori difficoltà, o non vi interessa?
Il mondo della musica sta cambiando rapidamente, questo è vero. L’intelligenza artificiale e la tecnologia fanno parte del futuro, ma ciò che conta davvero per noi è l’autenticità. Una band come la nostra si basa sull’energia umana, sulle emozioni e sui legami reali. Siamo autentici e scriviamo, registriamo ed eseguiamo la nostra musica da soli, solo noi!
Finché le persone vorranno musica onesta e concerti dal vivo autentici, non abbiamo nulla da temere.
SASHA e SONJA, grazie mille per il vostro tempo. C’è qualcos’altro che vorreste aggiungere che non vi ho chiesto durante questa chiacchierata, e cosa vorreste dire ai lettori e agli amici di Long Live Rock’n’Roll?
Vorremmo ringraziare te, i lettori e tutti coloro che sostengono la musica originale. Non smettete mai di credere nel vero rock e metal, non smettete mai di andare ai concerti e non smettete mai di essere voi stessi. Lunga vita al Rock’n’Roll e, speriamo di vederci presto in tour.

First, happy New Year, happy 2026. How are you? What’s new in Slovenia?
After a few years, I finally get the chance to chat to you again. We last spoke a few years ago, about four years ago, with Sasha and Sonja, and both told me that there were lots of new developments in your career. And there really have been new developments, and very good ones, indeed.
A new line-up, concerts in Europe, some videos and an EP… lovely. Also, I had the chance and the pleasure to meet you in Mantova during the Milady Fest 2025, some funny pics together… what a great night… What do you remember of that night, that festival in Italy?
SASHA & SONJA
Happy 2026 to you too! We’re doing great, thank you — motivated, busy, and full of ideas.
We’re seeing more connections with international bands and promoters, which is really encouraging.
It’s hard to believe it’s been about four years since we last spoke — time really flies. You’re right, a lot has happened since then. A new line-up always brings fresh energy, and playing concerts across Europe has been incredibly important for us, both musically and personally. Releasing new videos and the EP felt like the right step at the right moment, a kind of new chapter for the band.
Milady Fest 2025 in Mantova is something we remember very fondly. The atmosphere was amazing — powerful, supportive, and full of strong energy. It’s always special to play at a festival that truly celebrates women in metal, without labels or limits. The audience was fantastic, the organization was great, and yes — the backstage moments, chats and photos made the night even more memorable.
We love Italia! It always gives us a very warm welcome, and that night was no exception. It’s one of those shows that stays with you and reminds you why you do this in the first place.
Are you coming in our country again?
After the great response we received, coming back is definitely on our wish list. We never like to promise dates too early, but yes, we truly hope to see you again very soon.
I’m glad I had the chance to see you playing live. I could feel all your energy, class and power. I noticed that you had a lot of fun and entertained the audience perfectly too. It’s a great quality that impressed us all. Is energy one of the keywords that characterise the Hellcats?
Absolutely — energy is one of our core elements. For us, a live show is not just about playing songs correctly, it’s about sharing something real with the audience. We genuinely enjoy being on stage, and that fun, passion and connection naturally turn into energy. If the audience feels it and gives it back, that’s the perfect circle.
You performed a series of your own songs and then a series of covers. How do you choose the songs, now, and perform all the new ones included in your new EP “Unstoppable”? How do you choose the songs to sing, also considering Sara’s voice, which is different from the previous singers?
Our own songs always come first, especially the new material from Unstoppable. Covers are chosen very carefully — they have to fit the Hellcats’ identity and also highlight Sara’s vocal strengths. Sara has a wonderful voice, we were looking for that voice for quite some time. We don’t try to copy the past; we adapt, rearrange and build songs around the current line-up, so everything feels natural and powerful.
I was very impressed by Mia’s powerful guitar playing. Her touch is both rich and gentle at the same time. She is always very focused and serious, even in the videos.
Mia is an incredible guitarist — very focused, very precise, and deeply musical. Her touch really is powerful and sensitive at the same time. On stage and in videos she’s very concentrated, but that intensity is part of her personality and her strength.
And then the two formidable and terrible sisters, Sasha and Sonja, who believe in this fantastic project and put their heart and soul into making this adventure a great success.
…(laughs)… Thank you — we take that as a compliment (it is… ed.). Hellcats is not just a project for us. We’ve believed in it from the very beginning, through all the changes, challenges and obstacles. We put our heart and soul into this band because it’s more than music — it’s a way of life for us.
You’re finally back with a new release, an EP called “Unstoppable”. The title of your work is quite clear. It will be impossible to stop you from now on… right?
That’s exactly the spirit. The title reflects our mindset after everything we’ve been through. We’re still here, stronger, more focused and more united than ever. As long as we have the passion, the will and the support of people like you, yes — we feel unstoppable.
I noticed a great feeling between all of you. You are now a well-established and well-structured band in every respect. But there are four of you… young and with a strong personality. How do you experience moments of collaboration, writing, and living together also on tour?
We’re four strong personalities, that’s true — but we respect and love eachothers. We really became friends. We talk a lot, we listen to each other, and we all know we’re working toward the same goal. We just love being together and have the best time on tour.
By the way, how did your concerts abroad go? Any funny moments during your concerts that you would like to share with us?
The concerts abroad went really well — the feedback was amazing and very motivating. As for funny moments… there are many! From last-minute gear issues to language misunderstandings and spontaneous backstage laughs. Those moments actually bring us closer together and become great memories.
Once when we were in England (in Manchester) we went to the breakfast in a hotel and there was a woman who was working there and was asking us what kind of breakfast we wanted. She really had a strange accent and she had to repeat her question fo about 5 times, before we knew what she was talking about. That was a really funny moment and we laughed a lot. We are always in good mood when we are on a tour.
How did you feel after all this time, creating a physical product that marks your return to recording? From songwriting to recording, to the moment you held your Ep in your hands and signed the CDs?
It was emotional. From songwriting to recording, and finally holding the EP in our hands — that moment made everything real. Signing the CDs and seeing people’s reactions reminded us why physical releases still matter. It felt like a true comeback.
Your new EP, released last September 2025, contains three new tracks: “Unstoppable”, “I Am”, “Spiderweb” and the first single released two years ago entitled “Black Thunder”. Then there are two other tracks, “?rna Burja”, or “Black Thunder” sung in Slovenian, and “Naprej”, another track sung in Slovenian and written about nine years ago. Congratulations on your choices, all very interesting and powerful in true Hellcats style. Can you tell me about the choices you made? Talking about the two tracks in Slovenian and… well, a bit of everything…
We wanted Unstoppable to represent who we are — past, present and future. Including songs in Slovenian was very important to us, because it’s our language, our roots. “?rna Burja” and “Naprej” carry a special emotional weight and connect our international sound with our identity. The EP is a complete picture of Hellcats. Sonja and Sasha wrote all of the songs and the collaboration with the wonderful producer Sergej Pobegajlo was just amazing.
Throughout your career, I have seen that you have made many very interesting videos in which you try to express all your energy and power. What relationship do you have with videos and how important they are in your artistic journey?
Videos are a very important part of our artistic expression. They allow us to visually translate the energy, attitude and message of our music. We see them as another creative tool, not just promotion. Each video is a piece of our story and our Director Perica Rai always knows what we want.
Do you have any new projects for the near future? New dates, new concerts, new adventures you want to tell us about?
Yes — new concerts, new dates and new adventures are coming. We’re also already thinking ahead creatively. We like to keep moving forward and exploring new possibilities. We are going to Germany in May and to Belgium, the Netherlands and Croatia later. But on the 7th of March we will meet with two other all female bands in our home town Ljubljana where we organize the all-female vands event Dan rock žena (The day of women in rock) – since 2015.
It’s always nice to be able to talk about and talk to talented musicians, beautiful artists and people who dedicate part of their lives to music. Do you think that now that music is changing,music market is also changing partly due to artificial intelligence, a band like yours might face greater difficulties, or you don’t care?
The music world is changing fast, that’s true. AI and technology are part of the future, but what really matters to us is authenticity. A band like ours is built on human energy, emotions and real connections. We are real and we are writing, recording and performing our music ourselves, just us!
As long as people want honest music and real live shows, we’re not afraid.
