Cominciamo?

Sonja: Ci piace ancora ogni singola canzone.

Welcome on longliverocknroll.it pages, it’s a pleasure for me and for our readers having you here…

2022 is a great year for Hellcats… at least this last part of the year… I saw your pictures and your videos, lots of magazines are talking about you, you’re playing everywhere… back on the road? What are your feelings about it…

Sasha: This year is really good for Hellcats. We have new team, new strength Sara on vocals and Mia on guitar. We all have similar goals and we get along, so people noticed our energy. We love to perform live, have a special connection on stage and while touring England, people noticed it. We are really happy how the things are going.

But a step behind… what happened to HELLCATS? How many members have you changed in these recent years… and… why? too much pressure, too many expectations, everyone is busy with other projects or there is something else?

Sonja: Yes, we had some changes through the years but not more than any other band which exists for so long (almost 20 years). People change, their wishes and goals change, so their time goes to another projects of their lives. It seems that Sasha and I stayed the same. True to who we are, to what we do and believe in. And we believe in Hellcats!

And another step behind… an interesting album in 2013 in Slovenian language, ‘Divja pot’, and after a while in English to be more international, ‘Warrior Princess’, a real metal album, really catchy and strong… 9 years ago… what do you remember of those moments when you started to compose and record the album and the first shows promoting it?

Sasha: These are good memories. It was a hard work, but we enjoyed every minute of it. Sasha and I wrote all the songs and it is us you can see and get to know on the album. This was a great period of our lives, but we know the best is yet to come.

When you listen to ‘Warrior Princess’ or ‘Divja pot’ what are your feelings, do you still like it?

Sonja: We still like every each one of the songs. The most important thing in composing for us is, that we don’t release a song if we don’t totally like it. Because we know we will play it forever. And we enjoy playing them all.

After that… a long pause… and you came back a couple of years ago, more or less. All your fans are happy about it. Why right now and not a couple of years before?

Sasha: Let us correct you, we never had a pause, never stopped playing even in the Corona times not. We had concerts even when we didn’t have a guitar player, we hired a guitar player from another country. We are active band right from the start.

oh, I apologize for my mistake…
But now I’d like to know something about all of you, please. Sonja, Sasha, Mia and Sara… what about your interests and your favourite music, the one influenced all of you? And what about being together…

Sonja: Sasha and I are metal heads since our teenage years. Going to concerts, festivals and being a part of metal community is a great thing for our souls. We feel good. When we were kids we started to go to music school and were performing together a lot. We have classical music education and it really helps us while composing. But we are metal girls.

…and how these 4 musicians are approaching the current metal world? is still a world of men?

Sasha: It is better every day, since there are more and more girls in rock/metal music. When we started not many women were listening to metal music. When Iron Maiden came to Slovenia, we were young metal-heads then and the stadium was mostly men, the female toilets were always empty and it was easier to get to the first row.

hahahhah,,, And are you planning any new songs, album for the future? really hope so!!!

Sonja: We are preparing an EP, songs are written. We are preparing to hit the studio. We have this for some time, we were just waiting for the right team.

You’re gaining a lot of experience playing live music, I think you are always more confident and you’re approaching the stage better than before day by day. What about your relationship with the stage, live music, and the audience?

Sasha: That’s true. We enjoy playing live. We don’t use any recorded stuff on the stage so if you see us live is just us you hear. We feel good on the stage, we connect with audience easily and with current line up, we are ready to go just further up.

What is music for you?

Sonja: Music is the best thing there is. Whenever you feel sad, happy, excited, tired or any feeling you have, with good music, you can always add something to your feelings. Music is life.

Sasha: Yes, music makes my life perfect!

I agree with you…
Once again internet and social media can be a fantastic way to promote music and bands… and you are using digital media a lot. In your opinion are there any risks in using them?

Sasha: Social media these days is a great promotion, to be seen all over the word. We have fans everywhere in the world. It can be dangerous if you are not careful how to use them. You need to be careful what to post, but on the other hand you need to be careful everywhere how to present yourself. It depends on what you want.

Thanks Sasha and Sonja lot for your time. It was a pleasure being with you, and I look forward to meeting you in person. Would you like to close this short chat greeting your Italian friends and our readers and maybe adding something you would like our readers to know…

Sasha and Sonja: We would like to thank our fans who are supporting us all these years: Thank you all! Stay as you are, believe in what you do, don’t listen to people who want to change you too much and enjoy every minute of it!
