Houses of the Holy è il quinto album in studio della band rock inglese Led Zeppelin. È stato pubblicato il 28 marzo 1973 dalla Atlantic Records.
Diverse canzoni del disco sono diventate presenza fissa nei concerti del gruppo, tra cui “The Song Remains the Same“, ” The Rain Song ” e “No Quarter“. Altro materiale registrato durante le sessioni, inclusa la title track sono state messe temporaneamente da parte e pubblicate negli album successivi Physical Graffiti e Coda.
L’album è stato suonato da Robert Plant (voce), Jimmy Page (chitarra), John Paul Jones (basso, tastiere) e John Bonham (batteria). L’album è stato prodotto da Jimmy Page ed è stato mixato da Eddie Kramer .
La copertina è stato il primo della band ad essere ideata da Hipgnosis e si è basata su una fotografia scattata a Giant’s Causeway in Irlanda del Nord.
Sebbene la risposta critica sia stata mista, Houses of the Holy è diventato un successo commerciale ottenendo il disco di diamante (oltre 10 milioni di album venduti) dalla Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) nel 1999.
Nel 2012, l’album è stato classificato al numero 148 dei 500 migliori album di Rolling Stone di tutti i tempi.
