Sono trascorsi già sette anni dalla scomparsa del tastierista dei Deep Purple: Jon Lord. Lui e il suo Hammond, la bestia com’era solito etichettarlo, hanno partecipato alla nascita di un nuovo fenomeno e stile musicale: l’hard rock.
Moriva il 16 luglio del 2012 Jon Lord, Jonathan Douglas Lord, all’età di 71 anni alla London Clinic a causa di un’embolia polmonare dopo una lunga lotta contro il tumore al pancreas di cui soffriva da circa un anno.
A Londra ha frequentato il Royal College of Music, spinto a suonare il piano da suo padre musicista. Terminato gli studi suona con alcune band jazz, ma poi a Londra a fine anni 60 incontra Ritchie Blackmore e lo coinvolge nella formazione di una nuova band, i Deep Purple… che cosa aggiungere di più?

Nel 1964 collabora al piano alle registrazioni del primo omonimo album dei Kinks, quello in cui c’è il fortunato singolo ‘You Really Got Me’.
