Today, Belgian five-piece Whispering Sons release their new single “Tilt”. The track is available on all digital platforms and as a limited 1 track 7inch.

Last year’s sophomore album ‘Several Others’ got straight to #1 in the Belgian album charts and was released to much critical acclaim over Europe. The band’s dark and unique blend of experimental and frenetic post-punk and their infamously ferocious live shows cemented Whispering Sons as one of the most exciting and talented new bands to rise out of the low countries.

‘Tilt’ was written at the sessions that lead to album #2, but didn’t fit in with the rest of the tracks. Singer Fenne Kuppens explains; ‘Tilt’ was really a group effort. We had all been working on the song for a long time, trying out different arrangements and different parts, before eventually settling on its final form. When we went to the studio to record our second album ‘Several Others’, the track quickly became the odd one out. It became a more intimate and stripped-down version of what we initially intended. We felt that it didn’t fit with the rest of the album, but that it still deserved a release on its own.

‘Tilt’ is a surprisingly subdued and tender affair, opting for restraint over ferocity, putting singer Fenne Kuppens tense vocal delivery front and center. It’s another compelling example of how this band is capable of so much more than a full force attack on the senses. Sure Whispering Sons can hammer and pummel our ears, but they also thrill and seduce and leave us totally bewildered.

The video adds to song’s measured ambiance. Through slow-paced movements and a repetitive choreography, it becomes a meditative exploration of balance. “It’s an absurd take on the endless loop that life can be,” laughs Fenne.
