The Afghan Whigs annunciano il primo nuovo album in studio in 5 anni How Do You Burn?, in uscita il 9 settembre su Royal Cream / BMG. Il secondo brano estratto “The Getaway” viene accompagnato dal video ufficiale:

Il nono album How Do You Burn? segue i precedenti Do to the Beast (2014) e In Spades (2017), e riprende tutto esattamente da dove la band si era fermata dopo l’attesissima reunion avvenuta nel 2012.
The Afghan Whigs hanno iniziato a lavorare sull’album nel settembre del 2020, dopo che il frontman e cantautore Greg Dulli era stato costretto a rinunciare al tour per promuovere il suo ultimo album solista Random Desire per colpa del COVID.
E proprio a causa della pandemia, la band si è ritrovata a registrare da remoto: Dulli, il suo co-produttore Christopher Thorn e il batterista Patrick Keeler si trovavano in California; il bassista John Curley, il chitarrista Jon Skibic e il polistrumentista Rick Nelson erano rispettivamente a Cincinnati, in New Jersey e a New Orleans.
“Una volta capito il sistema, abbiamo iniziato a volare”, dice Dulli.
Inoltre, Dulli ha chiamato una serie di collaboratori, tra cui l’ormai defunto Mark Lanegan, anche lui membro dei Twilight Singers, partner di Greg in The Gutter Twins e caro amico. Lanegan ha esordito con The Afghan Whigs ai cori su due brani. “È stato Mark a dare il titolo all’album”, ricorda Dulli.
Susan Marshall, già presente nell’album 1965, torna su “Catch A Colt”, mentre Van Hunt, già tra le collaborazioni di Do to the Beast, ritorna in “Jyja” e “Take Me There”. Ritroveremo anche Marcy Mays, già sentita in Gentlemen, nella celestiale “Domino and Jimmy”.
The Afghan Whigs partiranno nei prossimi mesi per un lungo tour a supporto di How Do You Burn?, che prevede anche due date italiane: il 25 ottobre in Santeria Toscana 31 a Milano e il 26 al Largo Venue di Roma. Biglietti in vendita da venerdì 6 maggio.
