Innanzitutto, grazie mille per la tua disponibilità . Vorrei iniziare l’intervista con un paio di numeri che sono davvero incredibili: siete attualmente in un tour Europeo dove avete 38 concerti in 45 giorni tra cui 31 di questi concerti totalmente sold out! Che effetto fa?
Ci sentiamo come in un sold out tour! (risate). Come abbiamo realizzato che molte date erano sold out, eravamo sbalorditi, è fantastico! Fantastico per tutte le band del tour, fantastico per noi e per tutto il pubblico! Siamo davvero entusiasti!
Fantastico! Parliamo del vostro ultimo album “Macro” uscito lo scorso 25 ottobre. Come avete scelto il titolo dell’album è in che modo l’album è connesso al vostro ultimo EP “Micro” uscito ad inizio anno?
Il titolo è legato a vari concetti e testi delle canzoni. È stata un’idea di Tati (Tatiana Shmailyuk). Tutti i titoli sono stati scritti da Tati. Quindi quando ci ha suggerito il titolo dell’album ci è piaciuto è abbiamo deciso di utilizzarlo subito! (risate).
Ottimo! Parlando di “Macro” si puo’ dire che è un album ricchissimo, pieno di passaggi strumentali molto tecnici con un suono progressive molto potente che è dominante in tutti i pezzi, ma ci sono anche canzoni come “Judgement (& Punishment)” dove possiamo percepire un tocco reggae (come avete già fatto in passato su “Who is Gonna be The One”) od anche delle sonorità Jazz su “Home Back””…da dove viene l’idea di implementare questi diversi stili di musica nelle vostre canzoni?
Non so dirti esattamente come ci è venuto questo suono”… Eugene aveva questo riff da un paio di anni che abbiamo usato per “Home Back” connesso ad altri riff”… non ci diciamo semplicemente “mettiamo del reggae in questa canzone”, non componiamo in questo modo, “Judgement (& Punishment)” non aveva neanche un tendenza reggae prima che inserissi un paio di note che facessero effettivamente pensare ad un suono reggae”… quando ci siamo resi conto che il pezzo avrebbe avuto questa sonorità reggae ci siamo detti “ok, perché no?”. Non avevamo programmato niente, non abbiamo avuto molto tempo per quest’album! Abbiamo semplicemente iniziato a suonare, buttato giùqualche idea, qualche riff”… avevamo solo tre mesi per comporre e registrare l’intero album!
Wow, è decisamente una tempistica davvero corta! In ogni caso gli effetti che siete riusciti a creare in questi pezzi sono davvero sensazionali! Lasciatemi dire che quest’album è davvero un capolavoro e davvero complimenti per quello che siete riusciti a fare!

Quindi, se ti dovessi chiedere qual’è la tua canzone preferita dell’album e perché quale sceglieresti?
Non ho una canzone preferita. Siamo tutti davvero soddisfatti di tutte le parti di ogni brano dell’album. Non riesco davvero a sceglierne uno. Posso magari dirti che mi piacciono particolarmente alcuni riff ma non riesco davvero a scegliere una sola canzone.
Questo ci fa molto piacere! Raccontaci come avete avuto l’idea di inserire come ultima canzone dell’album il pezzo strumentale “IainnereP”? (Che immagino sia legato alla canzone “Perennial” del vostro EP).
Esatto è proprio così! Abbiamo iniziato con l’idea di inserire un pezzo di chiusura ispirato a “Perennial”. Abbiamo lavorato con il nostro ingegnere del suono e produttore Max Morton che ha anche registrato le parti di tastiera su “Micro” e “Macro”. Di solito esponiamo le nostre idee a lui su quello che vorremmo fare e quando abbiamo proposto questo pezzo gli è piaciuto subito e quindi lo abbiamo inserito!
È sicuramente un pezzo molto interessante! Quindi, quand’è che di solito trovate l’ispirazione per comporre nuovi brani, preferite ritrovarvi in uno studio e scrivere le vostre idee o durante i tour?
Durante i tour è piùdifficile. Nel mio caso le idee mi vengono quando sono a casa e suono la chitarra. Magari dopo aver fatto qualche studio review di altre band che stanno registrando mi viene voglia anche a me di suonare pezzi nuovi e di registrarli.
Quali sono quindi le band che ti ispirano principalmente e con cui vorresti magari condividere il palco in un tour o durante un festival?
Le band da cui traggo principalmente ispirazione sono band che ho iniziato ad ascoltare una decina di anni fa piùo meno”… ho iniziato con gli Slayer, Pantera, Metallica”… tutte band di trash metal e death metal. Adesso non ho una band specifica”… ascolto tutte le nuove uscite”…ci sono così tante band”… se dovessi scegliere una band con cui vorrei condividere un tour ti direi i System of a Down!
Ci sta alla grande direi! Se non erro condividerete il palco proprio all’Hellfest quest’estate sul Mainstage 1 la domenica!
Esatto! È fantastico!
Qual’è il primo concerto metal a cui hai assistito?
Da quello che mi ricordo dev’essere stato un concerto di una band della mia città natale”…nella mia regione ci sono molte band locali di death metal”… sicuramente era una di quelle band di death metal molto tecniche e brutali”… 2 grancasse”… penso che si trattasse del 2003.
Ok! I Jinjer sono stati di recente sulla cover di Revolver Magazine con la foto di Tatiana in prima pagina, dicci che cosa significa per voi essere sulla cover di un magazine così importante.
Revolver è un magazine importantissimo, è un grande onore per noi essere in prima pagina! È semplicemente WOW!
È sicuramente piùche meritato! Allora stasera suonerete ai Magazzini Generali qua a Milano dove siete stati spostati dal locale iniziale che era il Legend Club a causa della grandissima richiesta di biglietti, siete entusiasti nel suonare a breve la vostra data in Italia?
Guarda, per noi ogni volta che c’è un upgrade è fantastico! Continuo a ricevere messaggi dai nostri fans quando gli show sono sold out, e delle volte infatti è già stato fatto un upgrade”… vorrei veramente avere la possibilità di poter far venire ognuno dei nostri fan ai nostri concerti!
Quali sono le prime cose che ti vengono in mente quando senti parlare dell’Italia e che cosa ti piace dell’Italia?
Pizza e Pasta! (risate). Guarda nel Sud Italia fatico delle volte ad abituarmi alle città estremamente movimentate come Napoli, ma mi piacciono tantissimo il litorale ed il bel tempo!
Immagino che il tempo dev’essere molto diverso dall’Ucraina”…
Alcune volte durante l’estate quando fa veramente caldo possiamo raggiungere i 35°C, ma non è una cosa comune da noi.
Hai avuto tempo di mangiare un po’ di pizza o pasta prima del soundcheck oggi?
Purtroppo, no! Magari ci delizierà il catering dopo il concerto! Riusciamo a trovare pacchi di pasta italiana anche da noi adesso nei negozi, se compro della pasta dev’essere assolutamente pasta italiana! Ho sentito la mia ragazza al telefono prima e mi ha detto che siccome sono in Italia devo assolutamente portare a casa dei veri pacchi di pasta italiana! (risate).
Haha! Devi trovare un po’ di spazio in valigia per portarne a casa allora!
Assolutamente sì! Ed anche della salsa di pomodoro!
Haha decisamente! Come ultima domanda Roman volevo solo chiederti sei vuoi dire qualcosa ai vostri fan Italiani?
Vi vogliamo bene ragazzi! Divertitevi stasera al concerto e sostenete le band locali! Questo è davvero importante!

Today we have the pleasure and the honour to be here with Roman Ibramkhaliov, guitarist from the metal band Jinjer, how are you Roman?
I am very good thanks!
First of all, thank you very much for your time and availability. I would like to start the interview with a couple of numbers that are absolutely incredible: you are currently on a European tour where you have 38 gigs in 45 days among which 31 gigs totally sold out! How does it feel?
Yeah it feels like a sold out tour! (laughs). When we realized that a lot of shows were sold out, we were like wow, this is great! Great for all the bands, great for us and the people! We are hyped!
Awesome! Let’s talk about your new album “Macro” that was released on 25/10/19. Tell us why you chose the name Macro and how it is connected to your latest EP Micro released at the beginning of the year.
It is related to many concepts and lyrics. It came from Tati (Tatiana Shmailyuk). All the titles are up to Tati. So, when she suggested the name we were like ok, let’s go with Macro! (laughs).
Allright! So, Macro is an extremely rich album, it’s full of very technical instrumental sections with a powerful progressive extreme sound which is dominant throughout all the songs, but we have also songs like Judgement (& Punishment) where we can find a touch of Reggae sound (like you did with Who is Gonna be The One) or also Home Back with even a touch of Jazz sound”… how did you come up with the idea of implementing these different styles of music into your songs?
I don’t know really”… Eugene had this riff for “Home Back” for a couple of years connected with some other riffs”…and it’s not like “let’s put reggae on this song”, it doesn’t work like that with us, it was not even like really reggae before I put some notes that made it think to the reggae sound, it was not reggae before that. And then we realized it sounded like reggae and we were like “ok, why not?”. We didn’t plan anything; we didn’t have much time for this album! We just played, put down some ideas, riffs”… we had only 3 months for composing and recording the whole album!
Wow this is a really short time! Well the effects that you managed to create in the songs of this album are absolutely awesome! Let me tell you that this album is a real masterpiece so many congrats on that!

So, which one is your favourite song of the album Macro and why?
I don’t have a favourite one. We are really happy with all the parts with every song of the album. I really cannot choose one. Maybe I can tell you that I really like some riffs but I really can’t pick a single song.
Well this is great to hear! So, how did you come up with the idea of putting as last song of the album the instrumental track “IainnereP”? (Which we guess is referred to the song “Perennial” of your EP).
Yes, it is! We started with the idea of putting an ending track which was based on “Perennial”. We worked with our sound engineer and sound producer Max Morton who also recorded keyboards and everything on Micro and Macro. We usually give him ideas on what we want to do and when we suggested this track, he said that it was super cool and so we went for it!
It definitely is a super cool track! So, when do you usually get inspiration on writing new material, is it more you gather in a studio and you write down your ideas or during tours maybe?
On tour it’s harder. Ideas comes to me when I sit at home and play guitar. Maybe after some studio reviews of some bands that are recording, I feel like I want to play and record new material too.
Then which bands you take mainly inspiration from and whom you would like to share the stage with on a tour or at a festival?
My main inspiration are bands that I start listening 10 years ago maybe. I started with Slayer, Pantera, Metallica”… all the trash metal bands as well as some death metal bands. Now well I don’t have a specific band”… I listen to all the new releases”… there are so many bands”… If I would have to pick one band that I would like to take a tour with it would be System of a Down!
Wow nice! Well you are going to share the mainstage with them this summer at the Hellfest on the Sunday!
Exactly! This is great!
What is the first metal gig that you have ever attended then?
I think it was one band of my native city”…in our region we have a lot local death metal bands”… it was surely some brutal and technical death metal band”… 2 bass drums”… I think it was back in 2003.
Allright so Jinjer has been on the latest cover of Revolver Magazine with Tatiana, tell us what this means to you to see your name & picture on the cover of such an important magazine.
Revolver is such a big magazine, it’s a big honour for us to be on the front page! It’s just like Wow!
Well it’s definitely totally deserved! So, you are going to play tonight at the Magazzini Generali venue where you have been moved from the initial venue Legend Club due to overwhelming demand, are you excited about your coming show in Italy?
Every time it is upgraded is just great! I still receive messages from the fans telling me that it’s sold out that want to come and sometimes it’s already upgraded, and I just wish I could bring all our fans to our shows!
What are the first things that comes to your mind when you hear of Italy and what do you like about Italy?
Pizza and pasta! (laughs). Well in south of Italy I struggle with city that are extremely busy like Napoli but I like the seaside and definitely the warm weather!
Yeah I guess the weather must be really different compared to Ukraine…
Well sometimes in summer when it’s really hot we can reach 35°C but we are not used to these temperatures.
Did you have time to have some pizza or pasta before the soundcheck today?
No, unfortunately”…maybe tonight with the catering after the show! We have some Italian pasta even in our stores now, when I buy some to bring home it’s definitely Italian pasta! I spoke to my girlfriend before who told me that since I am in Italy now I need to buy some real Italian pasta to bring back home! (laughs).
Haha. So, you need to find a little bit of space on your luggage to bring some back!
Yeah definitely! And tomato sauce too!
Haha sure! So, as a last question, do you want to say something to your Italian fans?
We really love you guys, enjoy our show and support local bands! This is really important!
